(SACKVILLE, N.B.) - Mounties rookie and Sackville, N.B. native Jaryd Morrissey was the team hero Sunday, scoring in extra time to give Mount Allison a 1-0 win over the StFX X-Men at MacAulay Field.
The Tantramar High School product joined the Mounties this year and was playing in only his second AUS regular season game.
The Mounties played a tenacious 90 minutes against a talented StFX squad and a few key saves from Mounties' keeper Makenzie Hill deep into the second half kept the home squad in position for Morrissey's late game heroics.
This leaves Mount Allison's record at 1-1 after the first weekend of the season.
The Mounties will now gear up for a trip to Charlottetown Friday night when they take on UPEI at 7:15 p.m.
The X-Men next take to the field on Sunday when they too are hosted by the UPEI Panthers. Gametime is set for 3:15 p.m.
