Memorial curlers sweep weekly honours after championship performances in Fredericton

Cailey Locke from the Memorial Sea-Hawks women’s curling team is the East Coast Lifestyle AUS Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 18, 2026.
A first-year science student from Conception Bay South, N.L., Locke led Memorial to their first-ever women’s curling championship title this past weekend.
At the 2026 Bell AUS Curling Championships at Capital Winter Club in Fredericton, N.B., the Sea-Hawks went 4-2 in round-robin play to advance to the championship semifinal versus Saint Mary’s.
They then defeated the Huskies 7-6 to earn a berth at the U SPORTS national championship and a spot in Sunday’s AUS final versus the host UNB REDS.
Memorial defeated the REDS 6-2 in the championship final to capture the conference title.
Locke stole two in the second for an early 2-0 lead. She then scored one in the fourth, followed by another pair in the fifth. She scored a single in the seventh before running the REDS out of rocks in the eighth.

Simon Perry from the Memorial Sea-Hawks men’s curling team has been named the East Coast Lifestyle AUS Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 18, 2026.
A second-year science student from Portugal Cove-St. Philip's, N.L., Perry led the Sea-Hawks to their second consecutive AUS championship title this past weekend.
At the 2026 Bell AUS Curling Championships at Capital Winter Club in Fredericton, N.B., Memorial went a perfect 4-0 in round-robin play to advance to Sunday’s championship final versus Dalhousie and earn their berth at nationals.
The Sea-Hawks defeated the Tigers 5-1 in Sunday’s final. Perry put up singles in the second, third, and fifth ends, and stole two in the seventh.
Throughout the 2025-26 season, each East Coast Lifestyle AUS Athlete of the Week will receive a $50 ECL gift card and a signed certificate, courtesy of East Coast Lifestyle and Atlantic University Sport.
