Tigers women's volleyball left side Anna Dunn-Suen has been nominated by Dalhousie University for the 2016 James Bayer Memorial Scholarship Award.
A third-year science student from Halifax, N.S., Dunn-Suen finished first in the Atlantic conference in both points (258.0) and kills (211) in 17 matches played this season.
She was named to the AUS first team all-star squad for the second consecutive year following regular season play. Following Dalhousie's fourth consecutive AUS championship title win in the postseason, Dunn-Suen earned a place on the championship all-star team and was once again named championship MVP after earning the honours for the first time in 2015.
The Tigers came out on top at the 2016 Subway AUS Women's Volleyball Championship after defeating the Saint Mary's Huskies 3-0 in the semifinals and the Memorial Sea-Hawks 3-1 in the final. Dunn-Suen was named Subway Player of the Game in the first match after posting 12.5 points, nine digs and 11 kills for Dalhousie.
She followed the performance up by contributing 14.5 points, 14 digs and 14 kills in the championship final.
In the classroom, Dunn-Suen is a microbiology and immunology student and a two-time academic all-Canadian.
She also logs a considerable amount of time doing community service. In 2014, she travelled to Ecuador with a volunteer group to help build homes for families in need.
Dunn-Suen also works with TD's Women in Leadership Group Mentoring Program, which facilitates meetings between Dalhousie female varsity student-athletes and female junior high students. The objective of the program is to instill exemplary leadership skills in young women through meetings with community leaders.
"Anna is one of the most committed and hard-working athletes that I have had the pleasure of coaching in my 20 years as a coach," said Tigers women's volleyball head coach Rick Scott. "She is an extremely motivated individual who takes pride in everything she does and this is reflected in her academic and athletic achievements. I have witnessed Anna mature into a confident young woman and a tremendous role model and ambassador for Dalhousie University."
