(HALIFAX, N.S.) - The fourth-seeded Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues defeated the fifth-seeded Memorial Sea-Hawks Friday night by a score of 3-2 in the first quarter-final match of the 2014 Subway AUS women's volleyball championship at the Dalplex.
Set scores were 27-25, 26-28, 16-25, 25-21, 15-11.
With the win, the Aigles Bleues will move on to Saturday afternoon's first semifinal game at 4:30pm, where they will face the defending AUS champion and first place Dalhousie Tigers. Moncton lost both of their head-to-head match-ups with the Tigers this season in straight sets.
Subway Player of the Game Natasha Leblanc led Moncton with ten kills and 13.0 points in the victory, while Joline Richard and Rachelle Lemoine each added seven kills of their own.
Samantha March had 16 kills in the loss for the Aigles Bleues, and Angela Peddle and Jill Snow combined for 26 kills and 32.0 points.
The winner of Friday night's second quarter-final game will take on the second place Saint Mary's Huskies, Saturday evening at 7:00pm.
The winners of Saturday's semifinal contests will play each other in the AUS championship final on Sunday, February 16, to determine the AUS women's volleyball champions.
