Tigers on top at Dalhousie Invitational
Dalhousie dominates second AUS swim meet as UNB, Memorial and Mount Allison battle for podium positions.
(HALIFAX, N.S.) The Dalhousie Tigers won the Dalhousie Invitational on Sunday at Dalplex. On the men's side, UNB finished second and the Mount Allison Mounties were third. In the women's competition, the Memorial Sea-Hawks finished second, with the UNB REDS placing third.
The second session opened with the 200-metre butterfly. Dalhousie's Mia Stein-Blumberg and Alexia Morgans went 1-2 in the race, both earning a spot at the U SPORTS championship later this season. Memorial's Ireland Walsh finished third. In the men's race, it was a Tigers sweep, with Yannick Morgans winning ahead of teammates Alexander Jonsen-Humble and Isaac Bahler.
Dalhousie's Hailey Wignall won the women's 50-metre backstroke in 30.68 seconds. Fellow Tiger Nalina McDonald was second, and Memorial's Melina Richard finished third. Tigers Declan Nolan, Oliver Dawood and Eli Pickup went 1-2-3 in the men's event.
Emma Carrier Clarke captured her third win of the weekend in the women's 400-metre freestyle with a U SPORTS qualifying time of 4:20.84. Memorial's Jordan LeRoy and Dalhousie's Alexia Morgans placed second and third, respectively.
Yannick Morgans took the men's 400-metre freestyle, followed by Tigers teammates Morgan Sparkes and David Harvie.
Dalhousie's Amari DeLima-Baril won the women's 100-metre individual medley, followed by teammates Sara Bennett and Mia Stein-Blumberg. In the men's race, Tiger Quinn Nolan claimed first place ahead of Dalhousie teammates Cameron Carlyle and Nate Thompson.
Memorial's Emilie Schofield won the women's 100-metre backstroke, followed by UNB's Maria McDougall in second and Dalhousie's Olivia Howe in third. Declan Nolan took the men's event, with UNB's Nolan Oma second and Dalhousie's Pickup third.
Dalhousie swept the women's 200-metre breaststroke, with Ava MacKenzie finishing first, followed by Lily MacLean and Isla Campbell.
UNB's Blake Kingston won the men's 200-metre breaststroke, with Memorial's Liam Tweedie second and fellow Sea-Hawk Thomas Best third.
DeLima-Baril earned her second win of the afternoon in the women's 50-metre butterfly, touching the wall in 28.55 seconds. Bennett was second, followed by Memorial's Amelia Smith.
Tiger Quinn Nolan also earned his second victory of the day in the 50-metre butterfly, with teammates Thompson and Keilen Bellis finishing second and third, respectively.
Schofield claimed her second win of the afternoon in the women's 200-metre individual medley. Mount Allison's Jes Lawrence finished second, followed by Memorial's LeRoy. In the men's race, Carlyle placed first, with Nolan second and Timothy McCowan third.
The teams will return to the pool Nov. 28 at Dalplex for the Kemp-Fry Invitational.
