Tigers down Axewomen 1-0 with goal in closing minutes
(WOLFVILLE, N.S.) - The Acadia Axewomen (2-1-1) hosted the first place Dalhousie Tigers (3-1-1) Saturday at Raymond Field in Wolfville.

(WOLFVILLE, N.S.) - The Acadia Axewomen (2-1-1) hosted the first place Dalhousie Tigers (3-1-1) Saturday at Raymond Field in Wolfville.
In a tough match that was tied at 0-0 after 87 minutes of play, the Tigers' Victoria Parkinson found herself open to slip the ball past Axewomen keeper Carrie Wood to give Dalhousie the lead and the three points.
In the heartbreaking loss to the Tigers, the Axewomen came out strong and it was an evenly matched game between the two teams throughout the entire game. The Tigers had a 10-9 shots attempted and Dalhousie had a 6-4 shorts on target advantage.
Few opportunities were had and the Axewomen stayed strong at the back, not allowing many shots on goal. Shannon Junor picked up the win as the Tiger's keeper, while Carrie Wood allowed only her second goal of the season so far.
Subway Players of the Game were Dalhousie's goal scorer Victoria Parkinson and first-year midfielder Katie Ross from Acadia.
The Axewomen return to the field Sunday Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. to take on the 2-1-2 UNB Varsity Reds who are one point ahead of the sixth-place Axewomen in the AUS standings.
