Moncton takes Game 1 of quarterfinals with 4-0 win over Dalhousie

(MONCTON, N.B.) The Moncton Aigles Bleues defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 4-0 on Friday in Moncton in Game 1 of the quarter-final round of the Bell AUS Women's Hockey Championship.

(MONCTON, N.B.) The Moncton Aigles Bleues defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 4-0 on Friday in Moncton in Game 1 of the quarter-final round of the Bell AUS Women's Hockey Championship.
 
The first period between Dalhousie and Moncton began with Moncton controlling the majority of the faceoffs, including several by Elodie St-Jacques.
 
Dalhousie's goalie, Grace Beer, was active, making multiple saves as Moncton took a series of missed shots, including attempts by Amelie Vachon and Shani Rossignol. 
 
Gabrielle Noordijk of Dalhousie incurred two penalties, resulting in power play opportunities for Moncton, though Dalhousie successfully killed both penalties without conceding a goal.
 
Moncton scored the period's only goal at 15:15, with Emilie Comeau finding the net assisted by Valerie Hache and Erica Plourde. Moncton led 1-0 at the end of the period.

The second period began with Moncton winning consecutive faceoffs against Dalhousie, setting the tone early.

At 2:34, Moncton's Shani Rossignol received a two-minute penalty for body checking, but Dalhousie was unable to capitalize on the resulting power play.

Moncton extended their lead at 6:30 when Maritza Labrie scored, assisted by Amelie Vachon.

Dalhousie struggled to find the back of the net despite multiple shots and faceoff wins, with Annick Boudreau consistently making saves.

As the period closed, Dalhousie was unable to score, and at 19:30, a penalty on Emma Bishop gave Moncton a power play opportunity that carried into the end of the period.

In the third period, Moncton extended their lead with two key goals. Maritza Labrie scored at 4:21 with assists from Emilie Comeau and Laura Tremblay, marking her first goal of the season.

Later in the period, at 18:34, Lianne Desforges added another goal for Moncton, assisted by Erica Plourde and Valerie Hache.

Dalhousie's attempts to score were thwarted by Moncton's goalie, Annick Boudreau, who consistently saved shots from players like Hannah Robertson, Leah MacSween, and Emma Robertson.

Moncton capitalized on their opportunities, winning multiple faceoffs and maintaining strong defensive play throughout the period.

Goalkeeper Grace Beer stood out with 29 saves in her game, despite allowing four goals. 

The Tigers and Aigles Bleues return to the ice on Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Halifax Forum for the second game in the best-of-three series.
