(SYDNEY, N.S.) Cape Breton CAPERS women's basketball forward Kiyara Letlow made history today, breaking the all-time AUS conference record for career rebounds.
In a home game Friday evening versus the Acadia Axewomen, Letlow finished with 11 rebounds, bringing her career total to 1,028 and shattering the existing AUS record of 1,022.
The previous record was held by former CAPERS standout Alison Keough who played five seasons from 2013-14 to 2017-18.
Letlow, a fourth-year arts student from Toronto, Ont., breaks the record with nearly a season and a half of eligibility remaining. The CAPERS squad has eight games left to play in the regular season.
Following the history-making rebound, Letlow was recognized in front of Cape Breton's home crowd and presented with the game ball.
"We're incredibly proud of Kiyara and all she's been able to accomplish here at Cape Breton University with the CAPERS," said Director of Athletics for Cape Breton University John Ryan. "She's a leader both on and off the court, and is a fantastic student as well. She has excelled in all areas and is an exceptional student athlete. We're thrilled to see her name cemented in the record books among the other CBU and AUS greats. We know she has plenty more to accomplish here and we look forward to watching her continue to lead our team."
The 2022 U SPORTS rookie of the year, a three-time AUS first team all-star and two-time U SPORTS second team all-Canadian, Letlow already held both the conference record and second place for rebounds in a single season. She set the record in the 2022-23 season with 333, and followed that up with the second most rebounds in an AUS season with 290 in 2023-24.
This season, she is leading the country in both rebounding (15.5 per game) and scoring (22.2 per game).
Following tonight's 87-73 loss to the Axewomen, the CAPERS sit 7-5 on the season—tied for second with Acadia in the conference standings with 14 points apiece.
They are back in action Thursday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. when they will play host to the STFX X-Women.
The 2025 AUS Women's Basketball Championship is set for Feb. 28 to March 2 at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, N.S.
