X-Women spoil Capers' home opener with 72-57 victory

A slow start left the Capers playing a catch-up game all night as they trailed the visitors 16-6 after the first quarter and 38-25 at the half.
Cape Breton shot just 30 per cent from the floor in the loss and to 1-2 on the season, after splitting two games on the road last weekend against Memorial University in Newfoundland.
Colleen Keane led the Capers offence, finishing with 13 points and seven boards in a losing cause. Brittany Hollins added 13 points for the home side while Tanira McClurkin finished with 11 points and six assists.
Kolbi Roper had a game-high 23 points and added seven rebounds for the X-Women, who improve to 1-1 with the win.
Rebecca Sheehan with 17 points and eight assists and Lindsay Lessard with 14 points and eight rebounds were other top players for the visitors.
The Capers will play their next games on home court on November 23 when they host the Saint Mary's Huskies, followed by a November 24th contest against the Dalhousie Tigers.
The X-Women will host the UPEI Panthers this Saturday night at the Oland Centre in Antigonish, N.S.
