Law leads No. 5-ranked V-Reds to 2-0-1 record

(FREDERICTON, N.B.) - The UNB men's soccer team claimed another victory at home, defeating the Mount Allison Mounties 3-0.

"I thought there was some really nice stretches where we pretty much composed ourselves on the opposition, so that was good to see," said head coach Miles Pinsent. "It was nice that we got to use our entire bench and get a chance for some players to get some playing time."

Number seven Oliver Jones was named Subway Player of the Game. Benjamin Law also stood out scoring at 23:07, the second of the team's three goals in the game. This would bring his career goal count with the Varsity Reds to 10.

"He's always rock solid and if you come to a UNB game you might not really appreciate everything that Ben does out there," said Pinsent. "He just takes care of business and is so tidy in our back field, and then on set pieces he's always such a threat and always gets himself in a good spot."

An Ottawa native, Law is in his fifth year of eligibility with the team and was named an AUS first team all-star and a CIS all-Canadian last season. He was also the leading goal-scorer for the team.

The V-Reds improve their AUS record to 2-0-1, putting them in second place in the conference standings.

UNB hosts UdeM tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. at the UNB BMO Centre.
