The Aigles Bleus down the Panthers 4-2 in Moncton

(MONCTON, N.B.) - Subway Player of the Game Pier-Antoine Dion ended a scoreless period with two goals and led the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus to a 4-2 win over the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers in an Atlantic University Sport men's hockey game, Wednesday, at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in front of 700 spectators.

The blue and gold (14-8-0) sit third in the AUS standings, three points ahead of the Panthers (11-8-3). The previous two games between these teams have ended in one goal difference, each team winning once.

Danny Chiasson (from Simon Lacroix and Simon Jodoin) scored the first Aigles goal in the second period to even the score at 1-1, on the power-play.

Dion's first (from Eric Faille and Adrien Lemay), one minute later at 16:45, also on the power-play, made it 2-1 for his team.

Allain Saulnier (from Pierre Durepos and Alex Saulnier) broke a 2-2 tie game at 8:18 of the third period for the winning goal.

Dion's second, assisted by Faille and Samuel Groulx, was the insurance marker at 19:06 in an empty net.

Adrien Lemay faced 22 shots for the win in nets.

The Panthers put a damper on the fans and the Aigles when Travis MacIsaac scored their first goal just 26 seconds in the opening period. Alex Wall then had the tying goal for the UPEI at 19:34 of the second.

Mavric Parks had 32 shots for the Panthers.

"It was an important game for us," said Aigles head coach Serge Bourgeois after the game. "We played with intensity and speed and we did a good job. This was our make-up game and we got closer to second spot and put a little distance with the teams lower than us."

"We have six games left and we saw playoff hockey tonight in the third period," added Aigles forward Pier-Antoine Dion. "We have great battles with the Panthers. The two standings points are important for us."

The Aigles have three home games left to play. They host the Saint Mary's University Huskies (11-11-0) Friday and the St. Francis Xavier X-Men (10-10-2) Saturday. Puck drop for both games is set for 7 p.m. 

The Panthers next take to the ice Friday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. when they visit the Acadia Axemen in Wolfville.
