Second-year post Vasilije Curcic led Memorial with 20 points, including six in the final five minutes, in the win.
Memorial coach Peter Benoite got a lift off the bench from rookies Daniel Foo and Kieran Hawksley. Foo scored 12 points in 12 minutes including a three-pointer with 8:09 left in the fourth quarter that gave Memoral a three-point lead.
Hawksley added 10 points including a clutch jumper with 2:07 left to give Memorial a two-point advantage.
Jake Hynes was Memorial's Subway Player of the Game. Hynes played impressive defence on AUS leading scorer Javon Masters.
Jordan Irvine led UNB with 20 points in only 14 minutes of play. Irvine hit 4-6 from three-point distance and 8-9 from the foul line.
Will McFee scored 18 while Masters added 12 points for the Varsity Reds.
The win was Memorial's first of the year. Their record is now 1-8, while UNB falls to 7-3 on the year.
The two teams face off again Sunday in the second of two weekend games which make up Memorial's CIS Shoot for the Cure weekend.
