Huskies drop close one to Panthers

UPEI led 29-21 after 10 minutes and stretched its lead to 50-32 at halftime.
Two quick three pointers by Saint Mary's Marquis Clayton cut UPEI's lead to 50-38 in just 46 seconds in the third quarter. UPEI led 72-60 after thirty minutes.
The Huskies fought back to start the fourth quarter, using a 7-0 run to trim the UPEI lead to 72-66.
UPEI's Geoff Doane's four-point play extended the Panther lead to ten points and closed out the game 92-81.
Doane finished with a game-high 24 points for UPEI who improve to 5-5 on the year.
Clayton and Theon Reefer each had 19 points for the Huskies who fall to 7-3 in AUS play.
Terrence Taylor recorded another double-double for Saint Mary's with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Jeremy McAvoy added nine points while Boyd Vassell and Travis Adams each had six points.
Also scoring for Saint Mary's was Ryan Augustine with four points, Riley Halpin with three points and Leonard Riley added two points.
The Huskies shot 38.8 per cent from the floor (31-80) compared to UPEI's 39.5 per cent (32-81).
UPEI went 10-28 from three-point land while Saint Mary's went 6-25 and held the rebound advantage at 55-52.
Saint Mary's had more points in the paint, 44-36 and more bench points, 31-16.
The Panthers visit the Acadia Axemen in their next game Friday, Jan. 17. The Huskies return to action Saturday, Jan. 18 when they travel to Cape Breton to face the Capers. Both games begin at 8 p.m.
