|
The
bulk of their success has been in the play of their bigs, and one
of them has been injured for most of their conference play. A.J.
Geugjes and Sean McCormick are in the top five in
rebounding.
When
Meshack Lufile gets healthy, this front court will be even more
dangerous. Kelson Devereaux has been steady at small
forward.

|
The
Capers starting guards offensive inconsistency has to be
addressed.
Kasongo and
Stephenson are hitting just under 35% from the floor and at that
rate they aren’t an offensive threat to beat you. Seth Amoah
has been a help off the bench.

|
Allowing the fewest
points in the league and being first in defensive rebounding is
what this team can hang it’s hat on.
The
return of Lufile will strengthen their presence in the paint.
Without him in the lineup in their last 3 games they’ve
allowed almost 90 PPG.

Seth Amoah and
Lee MacQuarrie coming off the bench are able to give Coach Skinn
options and they can be relied on for solid minutes. |

| Other Comments: The elephant in
the room is who on the roster is going to step up as the offensive
leader of the team? Only once has a player had more than 20 points
in a game (Cedric Kasongo - 28 against Saint Mary's). A great
defense is wasted if your offense can’t keep pace. -

Coaches Comments: I think our play was
very inconsistent during the first part of the season. We were
unable to establish an identity on offense or defense for a variety
of changes in our line-up.
For our team, honestly, the break came at a good time so we
could re-group, rest, and hopefully come back recharged in January
for league play.
Our league is very tight this year, as it always is, so to get
the opportunity to compete at the Metro Centre for the AUS
Championship will mean giving us a chance to win the conference. I
think anyone who gets there has a chance, and that is what anyone,
including us, can ask for. It would be great to get back there and
have a chance to do what we did last season but we have to improve
everyday to gear up towards that opportunity.
We are also hoping to get Meshack Lufile back for the beginning
of the second semester. He will certainly be a boost to our lineup.

| Capers Notes: Sophomore guard Seth
Amoah is averaging a team-high 13.0 points per game...Senior
forward Sean McCormick is third in AUS rebounding with 8.6 per
game. He also led the Capers in 2012-13 with 7.9 rebounds per
game... CBU is allowing a league-low 74.6 points against in seven
games played this season...Cape Breton has qualified for the last
10 consecutive AUS championships. The last time the Capers missed
the AUS post-season tournament was in 2002-03 when they finished
with an 8-12 record...Since joining the AUS men’s basketball
conference in the 1990-91 season, the Capers have only missed the
playoffs four times in 23 seasons. |

holds the Cape Breton school record for career points scored with
1,500 in 96 games played over his five-year career from 1990-91 to
1994-95...The school’s current active leader in career points
scored is third-year forward Arild Geugjes with 463 points in 43
career regular season games played...Jimmy Dorsey holds the school
record for most points scored in a single game with 49 (Feb. 12,
2012 vs. Acadia)...Head coach Matt Skinn played five years for the
Capers, accumulating 849 points in 95 career regular season games
from 1999-00 to 2003-04. |
