Anthony Ashe led the charge with 20 points, 14 of which came in the first half, while Owen Klassen added 13 points in the first half for a game total of 15 points in 28 minutes of play.
Anthony Sears, who is still working on his comeback after not playing for most of the season while recovering from a September ankle injury, had 13 points in 19 minutes of play.
The Axemen had 35 points off the bench and converted 24 points off of SMU's 17 turnovers.
Riley Halpin had a team-high 15 points for the Huskies while Kevin Thomas, Jeremy McAvoy and Chris Jordan added 13, 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Huskies shot 33% from the floor, while Acadia were 57% from the floor including a 62% field goal percentage in the second half.
A tight first quarter had Acadia only ahead 20-18, but the Axemen pulled out to a 45-29 halftime lead and added a 16-2 point run opening the second half.
Saint Mary's fell behind by as much as 30 points early in the final frame and managed to close the gap to 22 points with 30 seconds remaining in the game.
The Axemen will next face the undefeated, CIS No. 2-ranked Cape Breton Capers this weekend for a pair of games, while the sixth place Huskies, who drop to 6-11, will host the fourth place Dalhousie Tigers at home on Friday.
