Week 3 AUS Football Players of the Week: Bussey, Chappus and Hadley

(HALIFAX, N.S.) In week 3 of AUS football action, STFX's Malcolm Bussey and Ben Hadley, along with Acadia's Kyle Chappus, have been recognized for their outstanding play as the AUS football players of the week. 

Offensive Player of the Week
Name: Malcolm Bussey
University: St. Francis Xavier University
Position: Running back
Hometown: Hammonds Plains, N.S.
Year of eligibility: Third
Academic program: BA Human Kinetics
Height and weight: 5'11", 197lbs

STFX X-Men running back Malcolm Bussey is the Atlantic University Sport football offensive player of the week for the week ending Sept. 10, 2023.

A third-year human kinetics student from Hammonds Plains, N.S., and the reigning conference MVP,

Bussey scored two touchdowns in the X-Men's 43-8 win over Mount Allison on Saturday.

Both majors came in the second quarter as he had two and 34-yard scores. Bussey had 17 carries for 87 yards in the game.

His 116.7 rushing average tops all AUS rushers. He currently has 54 rushes for 350 total yards on the season.

Defensive Player of the Week
Name: Kyle Chappus
University: Acadia University
Position: Defensive lineman
Hometown: Black River, N.S.
Year of eligibility: Fifth
Academic program: MA Sociology
Height and weight: 6'2", 260lbs 

Acadia defensive lineman Kyle Chappus has been named the AUS football defensive player of the week.

A senior masters of sociology student from Black River, N.S., Chappus had four tackles for loss, including three quarterback sacks, and 24 total loss yards in Acadia's 13-5 loss to the Saint Mary's Huskies Friday night in Wolfville, N.S.

Chappus had 6.5 total tackles in the game—five solo and one assisted. He currently leads the conference in sacks with 3.5 on the season.

Name: Ben Hadley
University: St. Francis Xavier University
Position: Kicker/Punter
Hometown: Halifax, N.S.
Year of eligibility: Fourth
Academic program: BBA
Height and weight: 6'2", 190lbs

STFX X-Men kicker Ben Hadley is the AUS football special teams player of the week for the week ending Sept. 10, 2023.

A fourth-year business student from Halifax, N.S., Hadley scored 29 points and earned Player of the Game honours in STFX's 43-8 win over the Mount Allison Mounties Saturday in Sackville, N.B.

He set a STFX school record and tied the AUS conference record with six field goals in the game. His field goal scores came from 30, 17, 36, 45, 40 and 42 yards out, while he also kicked three extra points and two rouges.

Hadley also ran in a 14-yard touchdown after a botched snap and had five kickoffs in the game for 326 yards, averaging 65.2 yards/kick.
