(MONCTON, N.B.) - The regular season of the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues volleyball team ended on Sunday with a 3-1 loss to the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds in an Atlantic University Sport women's volleyball game in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the CEPS Louis-J.-Robichaud.
The Aigles lost 27-25, 28-30, 31-29 and 25-19. Natasha LeBlanc had 13 kills and 12 digs while Joline Richard was 14-12. Sigourney Stott had 24 digs on defence.
"This is a hard loss for us," said Moncton coach Monette Boudreau-Carroll. "The girls battled hard. We should have won the third set. Both teams wanted to win badly. We will now get ready for the AUS championships."
The Aigles Bleues (6-10) finish the regular season in fifth place and will travel to Halifax this week for the Subway AUS women's volleyball championships hosted by Dalhousie.
Six teams will battle for the title. Saint Mary's (2nd) and Dalhousie (1st) have a bye to the semifinals on Saturday. Moncton will meet the Memorial University Sea Hawks (4th) on Friday, at 5 p.m. in one quarterfinal while Acadia (6th) and University of New Brunswick (3rd) will tangle in the other series, at 7 p.m.
The championship game is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at the Dalplex, at 2 p.m.
