AUS announces suspension to UPEI men's hockey player
(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Atlantic University Sport Executive Director Phil Currie today announced that UPEI Panthers men's hockey player Mason Wilgosh has been suspended for a total of 12 regular season games as a consequence of an illegal check to the head of an opponent in a game vs. Acadia on November 30, 2012.
(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Atlantic University Sport Executive Director Phil Currie today announced that UPEI Panthers men's hockey player Mason Wilgosh has been suspended for a total of 12 regular season games as a consequence of an illegal check to the head of an opponent in a game vs. Acadia on November 30, 2012.
In the second period of the game, Wilgosh was assessed a Match Penalty, Intent to Injure under rule 6.5 - Head Contact.
In addition to an automatic four-game suspension Wilgosh receives for this penalty under CIS rules, Mr. Currie has reviewed the incident and an additional eight games of supplemental discipline has been assessed.
Wilgosh has already served one game (December 1, 2012 at Dalhousie) and will miss UPEI's next 11 regular season games. He will also not be permitted to participate in any exhibition play scheduled over the holiday break.
Wilgosh has the right to appeal this decision.
