AUS Men's Basketball Weekly Round Up: Week 12

Friday, Feb. 23

Dalhousie 88 vs. UNB 75 (Box Score) (4-point game)
(FREDERICTON, N.B.) The UNB Varsity Reds could not take advantage of home court Friday, dropping an 88-75 decision to the visiting Dalhousie Tigers. The three-time, defending Atlantic University Sport champion Tigers swept the season series from UNB, securing first place in the conference standings and a first-round bye in next weekend's Subway AUS men's basketball championship tournament, in Halifax. Alex Carson led all scorers with 26 points for the Tigers, going 7-for-12 from three-point range. Jordan Aquino-Serjue added 25 for Dalhousie and was named the Subway Player of the Game. Javon Masters led the Varsity Reds, scoring 16 points and grabbing four rebounds. Jesse Kendall scored 12 and Daniel Pitcher came off the bench to add 12 more points in the loss. Saint Mary's 89 vs. Memorial 74 (Box Score) (4-point game)
(ST. JOHN'S, N.L.) The Memorial Sea-Hawks were defeated 89-74 by the Saint Mary's Huskies on Friday night in AUS men's basketball action from The Field House. Nikita Kasongo and Kemar Alleyne led the Huskies with 23 points apiece, with Kasongo adding six rebounds and four assists, and Alleyne posting five rebounds and two assists. Memorial was led by Daniel Gordon who posted a game-high 35 points and added six rebounds and two assists in the loss. Read more: Recap  

StFX 72 vs. UPEI 60 (Box Score) (4-point game)
(CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I.) The UPEI Panthers struggled mightily in the third quarter, scoring just six points allowing the St. FX X-Men to take full advantage, as they came away with a 72-60 win Friday night. Subway Player of the Game, Kevin Bercy, was a force in the paint all night for St. FX (9-10) recording a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Stefan Vujisic led the Panthers in the loss with 17 points. Acadia 105 vs. Cape Breton 79 (Box Score) (4-point game)
(SYDNEY, N.S.) The Cape Breton University Capers dropped their last game of the season against a talented Acadia Axemen team to a score of 105-79. For the Capers Kyle Hankins ended his AUS career with a team-high 19 points and 8 rebounds. Eric Nissen poured in 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds for the victorious Axemen. Read more: Recap

Saint Mary's 69 vs. Memorial 53 (Box Score) (4-point game)
(ST. JOHN'S, N.L.) The Saint Mary's Huskies topped the Memorial Sea-Hawks 69-53 on Saturday afternoon from The Field House. Nikita Kasongo posted a game-high 20 points, adding 12 rebounds for the double-double, with Brent Martindale also posting a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. In their final home game, Daniel Gordon and Davion Parnisalu ended their Sea-Hawks careers with solid contributions; Gordon had a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, Parnisalu had 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. StFX 84 vs. UNB 93 (Box Score) (4-point game)
(FREDERICTON, N.B.) Javon Masters scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Varsity Reds in a 93-84 win over the St FX X-Men Saturday night. Masters also had eight assists on the night. The win, in a four point game, moved UNB into second place in the AUS standings on the last day of the regular season. Will Legere came off the Varsity Reds bench to score 24 points on 9-for-10 field goal shooting. He also grabbed six rebounds, and was named the Subway Player of the Game. Julius Antoine led the X-Men with 22 points, while Kevin Bercy added 19 points and 12 rebounds, recording the double-double. Dalhousie 85 vs. UPEI 70 (Box Score) (4-point game)
(CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I.) The Dalhousie Tigers earned a 85-70 victory over the UPEI Panthers Saturday night. Sven Stammberger, who was named Subway Player of the Game, finished with a team-high 16 points, while teammates Xavier Ochu (13), Alex Carson (12) and Sascha Kappos (10) each scored in double figures. In his final game as a Panther, Samy Mohamed put up a game-high 17 points. Read more: Recap
