Kitchener's Tregunna to join Axemen this Fall
August 8, 2008 (WOLFVILLE, NS) - Acadia Axemen hockey head coach Darren Burns is pleased to announce
another major recruit for the 2008-2009 season. Scott Tregunna (Mount Forest, ON), a
senior with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League, will be attending Acadia
University this fall.
The Rangers and Tregunna captured the OHL championship this past season and lost 4-1 to
the eventual Memorial Cup Champion Spokane Chiefs. A 6'2", 210lb right winger,
Tregunna had an 82 point season (31 goals) with the Owen Sound Attack in 2006-2007 before
being traded after 29 games to the Kitchener. Playing more of a defensive role with the
Rangers, this past season Scott had four goals and four assists in Kitchener’s
playoff run.
Tregunna showed his versatility by playing defense due to several key injuries while
with Kitchener. Head Coach Darren Burns points out that Tregunna has played for Canada's
top Junior Hockey program – the Kitchener Rangers. "Scott will enjoy the
transition of entering university hockey at Acadia where hockey matters so much and is so
heavily followed."
Burns hopes that Tregunna will bring his scoring talent to a team that finished last in
AUS team scoring race with 2.82 goals per game. "Scott will be a huge addition to the
Axemen line-up. He’ll be an impact player with an important role in our program. He
is a big kid who skates well, he can score and he is hard to move in front of the net
– all qualities of a proven scorer".
The Axemen open up the Pre-Season at home with the Don Wells Invitation Tournament on
September 27-28. Visiting teams include StFX, Saint Mary's and the Queen's Golden Gaels.
Acadia's first regular season AUS game is at home against Saint Mary’s Huskies on
Friday October 17 – 7pm, during Acadia’s Homecoming weekend.
