Acadia's Anderson and StFX's Bercy named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Paloma Anderson of the Acadia Axewomen basketball team and Kevin Bercy of the StFX X-Men basketball team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Paloma Anderson of the Acadia Axewomen basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 5, 2017.

A fourth-year arts student from Phoenix, Arizona, Anderson was an integral part of two weekend wins versus the U Sports No. 10-ranked Cape Breton Capers this past weekend.

Acadia downed Cape Breton 96-75 Friday night in Wolfville, N.S. Anderson was named the Subway Player of the Game after posting 32 points along with three assists, three steals, two rebounds and a block.

Saturday, the Axewomen topped the Capers 78-69 in overtime. Anderson had 25 points, five assists, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

The reigning AUS MVP, she currently leads the country in scoring, averaging 23.3 points per game. She also leads the Atlantic conference in assists (3.7 per game) and in steals (2.9 per game).

Kevin Bercy of the StFX X-Men basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 5, 2017.

A fourth-year business student from Kanata, Ont., Bercy scored 26 points and had 17 rebounds in StFX’s 85-83 win over the Saint Mary’s Huskies in Halifax Friday night.

Bercy currently sits second in both AUS and U Sports in rebounding, averaging 11.2 rebounds per game. His field goal percentage of 61.0 is the best in the country.
