- In front of 608 supporters, their largest crowd of the season,
the Tommies put on a great show for Hailey Fitzgerald and brought
the community together to raise more than $4,000 for
Fredericton’s Hailey Fitzgerald is a seven-year-old who was recently diagnosed with juvenile metachromatic leukodystrophy, an extremely rare genetic condition that affects the white matter of the brain. MLD is terminal and has no standard, effective treatment.
"We were extremely pleased with the efforts of everyone involved in the ‘Hockey For Hailey Fundraiser,’” says women’s hockey head coach Peter Murphy. “We had donations both in cash and goods for the bake sale. It was a memorable evening for the family and Hailey was so excited she slept in her jersey that night.
“It was an experience our players and fans won't soon forget. It was great to see people come together like that and raise that much. It’s just another example of the generosity of the Fredericton Community."
Tommie players were very inspired by Hailey, spending time with her after the game, signing her jersey, and tweeting about how much they valued the experience.
The funds raised will go to making sure the rest of Hailey’s life could be filled with happy memories, helping her participate in activities she loves while she still can, while a portion of the money will help cover her medical care.
